Rome

Rome, my favorite big city in the world is the starting point of our this trip through ancient times.  This ancient metropolis combines history with culture and cuisine.  Walk out of the metro at the Collesso, stop, and your breath will be taken away by the omnipresence of the Colosseum.  This structure dates back to 72 A.D. where they had Naval battles and Gladiators battling men and animals for entertainment.
Up the hill is the church San Pietro in Vincoli.  Here you will find the chains that held St. Peter in his final imprisonment at the Mamertime Prison in Rome.  Just to the right of the alter lies one of Michelangelo’s best works of art, the Statue of Moses that was part of the tomb of Pop Julius II.  We will continue our tour through the Roman, Imperial and Trajan Forums, Trevi fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon and Piazza Navonna. As we stroll through the historic city we will eat at world class restaurants and sidewalk cafes.  We will save one day for the only country that lies within a city, The Vatican City.  This museum has some of the best collected art in the world.  Next door is the Basilica of St. Peters.  Climb with me to the top of the dome for breath taking views from this magnificent work of art.
