London, Helsinki, St. Petersburg & Moscow
Everyone loves London!!! This is a great city to walk, take the underground or a bus to visit the many attractions this world class city has for you to discover. We started with taking our photos on the famous Abbey Road crosswalk where the Beatles made it famous on their album cover. Next walking through Hyde Park and past Buckingham Palace to 10 Downing Street then along the Thames river with views of the Parliament building and Big Ben then down to the Tower bridge and the Tower of London are just a few of the sites we visited.
Helsinki was cold and short stay as we walked around the frozen tundra and rivers surrounding this city. The locals were very friendly in this picturesque medium size city.
St. Petersburg a city that is too European to be Russian and too Russian to be European. Named after Peter the Great, this city covers over 100 island and crosses more than 60 rivers and canals. Although it is very expensive, there are many palaces and museums that are worth the price. Summertime is the best time to visit. The days are longer with only 30 -40 minutes of twilight which allows you plenty of time to see all the fountains and the gardens that are in bloom. Filled with history, you will find your self in love with the city and its people.
A midnight train to Moscow? Eight hours later and here we are walking in Red Square between the Kremlin and St. Basil’s Cathedral (shown above). The Cathedral’s interior is as amazing as the multicolored onion domes of it’s exterior. Commissioned by Ivan the Terrible in 1552 it was started in 1555 and finished in1560. There are many more points of interest in Moscow but I would prefer to spend my time back in St. Petersburg.
